Does Propane Refrigerator Draw Power from Electricity Too

Updated 05/22/2025 | Published 05/20/2025

Question:

Question ! I have a 2021 Jayco 5th wheel 28.5, it has an outdoor kitchen, a LP/propane 8 cubic Dometic refrigerator. I would like to know what size solar generator I would need to power the refrigerator, I would unplug the refrigerator and plug into the solar generator to travel on the road thus no need to have propane on to keep the refrigerator running safe travel for about 5-6 hours of driving

Hey Dave, you mentioned that your fridge is LP/propane but did you mean to also say that it can run off of electricity as well? If it's a propane fridge it wouldn't draw any electricity for cooling power and LP is another way of saying low pressure propane. So if you could verify the power source your fridge is designed to work with I can see what you may need.

@Dave Is there any power consumption info on the fridge that you can see? That would be a good place to start so we know how much power you'd need.

@JamesonC Just bought the new Jackery 1000 v2 which can produce 1500 watts, Memorial Day sale 40 % off before the sale ended should be enough power
