Best Weight Distribution Hitch For A 2011 Silverado 1500 Pulling a 5000lb Travel Trailer

Updated 09/29/2025 | Published 05/12/2025

Question:

Good afternoon. Im trying to determine the best weight distribution hitch to buy but there seems to be many, many options and even more opinions. Can you recommend the best hitch with sway control for a 2011 Silverado 1500 GVWR 7000 for pulling a travel trailer with dry weight 3500 to 4000 and GVWR of 4500 to 5000? Anderson? Fastway E2? Husky? Curt? Thank you.

Hey Ernie,

We do have a lot of options so it is hard to narrow it down. With weight distribution you want to go with something that is adequate for your tongue weight of the trailer. Yours is roughly around 450-500lbs. 5000lbs is the most your trailer is going to weight and most likely will not weigh that much anyway.

For your set up I recommend 2 options, the difference being how much sway you are experiencing. I recommend the # EQ37060ET, Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Hitch. This is going to have better sway control on top of weight distribution, so if you notice more sway when towing this is the one you want to go with. It is rated for 600lbs of tongue weight, great for your set up and is a simple no drill installation.

If you notice when towing that you do not get as much sway I recommend # BXW0750, the Blue Ox SwayPro. Blue ox still does a great job of preventing sway with its chain style, but the focus is going to be more on distributing the weight and reducing sag. The great thing about the chain style besides its ease of use is that it is going to be quieter than other systems.

Both are great options, it just depends on if you experience more or less sway when towing. Are you looking for a system to reduce the sag on the vehicle or sway control?

Hey Ernie, Did you have a chance to decide between the Equal-i-zer and the Blue Ox SwayPro for your Silverado? I'm curious to know which one you chose and how it's working out for you, as it could help others make a decision in similar situations.

@NickS Good afternoon. I went with the E2 10,000# hitch which is what the dealer recommended. Thank you for the followup.

@Ernie Of course! I am glad you were able to find something that will work. You'll have to let me know how you like it after you get a chance to tow with it a couple times.
