Parts Needed To Wire A 20' Open Deck Dual Axle Trailer With Brakes

Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 05/04/2025

Question:

No matter what terms i use, i cant find a complete wiring harness for a 20ft open deck dual axle/brakes car trailer. I get everything under the sun instead. What search terms do i need to use? I remember when doing a search worked, now not soo much

Hello Joe, thanks for reaching out. We do offer the parts you are looking for re-wiring your trailer, but we would not have everything as a full all-inclusive kit. What I recommend is a 7-way with junction box, then you can use jacketed 7-wire, or like just 12-14 gauge wire (both sold by the foot) if you have some laying around. You would also need butt connectors or heat shrink. Here is what I recommend:

- etrailer Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit w/ Junction Box and RV Style Connector # e99011

- 14 Gauge, 7 Conductor Jacketed Wire - Per Foot # DK74FR

- 12 Gauge 2 Conductor Jacketed (Brake) Wire Per Foot # 12-2-1

- Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 16-14 Gauge - Nylon Insulation - Blue - Qty 10 # DW05744-10

Was there anything else you were looking for?

Take a look at the article I linked below and let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

Hey Joe, did the wiring setup with the 7-way upgrade kit and the jacketed wires work out for your trailer? I'm asking because your experience could help others who are trying to re-wire their trailers too.
