Hey Laurie!
I believe you're referring to the Thule Hullavator Pro Kayak Roof Rack # TH898. If this is the case, then you definitely can use the Hullavator Pro on your vehicle, but you'll need to use an aftermarket roof rack since the OEM roof rack doesn't have the crossbars extending past the legs of the system.
For a Sedan you need the Thule Kit # TH43SG, but if you have the 5-door "wagon" style then you'll need the Kit # TH53PG for a bare roof or the Kit # TH52ZA if you have the raised rails running the length of the roof.
What style roof do you currently have?

I actually have not bought the car yet, I wanted to be sure it was compatible first, kayaking is VERY important to me. I currently use the hullivator on bare roof Subaru Legacy, and it's perfect, but I'm replacing the car and want to be sure the Impreza was not too small for the hullivator and my 11.5foot kayak. I will keep in touch when I make the purchase. Thanks for your input.
