Why is EcoHitch for 2013 Audi Allroad Considered Class II

Question:

This trailer hitch is listed as a Class II 2 which has a maximum towing capacity of 3500 lbs. However, you are listing this Class II 2 with a maximum towing capacity of 2000 lbs. Is this because the designated vehicle that fits this hitch only has a maximum towing capacity of 2000 lbs, or is this really a Class I 1 hitch with a maximum owing capacity of 2000 lbs and a 2 inch receiver?

Hi Gary; the Class II designation on the EcoHitch # 306-X7324 comes from the higher tongue weight capacity of 300 lbs. The max gross trailer weight is still 2,000 lbs. This also has a 2" receiver which is typically found on a Class III. EcoHitch doesn't always follow your typical standards. Realistically, the class ratings can be helpful in identifying features but what really matters is the specific ratings for each hitch.

@RobinH , Yes, this was helpful. I made the decision not to use my targeted vehicle to tow more than 2000 lbs which I was hoping I could. Instead, I ended up ordering a Class III (3) hitch for my wife’s Land Rover for that purpose. I plan on getting the EcoHitch # 306-X7324 in the near future for my vehicle for our utility trailer and bike rack. Best Regards, Gary
