Do Wheels with Lug Nuts Center on the Hub Via the Pilot Hole of the Wheel
Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 04/17/2025 >
Question:
I recently purchased a set of new tires and wheels for my boat trailer. They are 5.30x12 with 4 on 4 and uses lug bolts. They have the 2.8inch center holes and my old ones have the 2.5inch holes. Ive read it doesnt matter because the bolts will support the load, but for peace of mind, can I buy centering rings? I couldnt find them on your parts list. Thanks

Hey Joe, there's no reason you'd need anything in your wheel pilot hole as your wheels are centered via the tapered lug nuts. If for some reason your wheels were secured with wheel bolts instead of lug nuts then yes you'd need the pilot diameter to be exact but that wouldn't be the case for you.

Hey Joe, did the explanation about the tapered lug nuts help ease your concerns about the wheel fit? I'm curious because it might reassure others who are worried about similar issues.
