Why Would Trailer Wiring Harness for 2014 Honda CR-V Have Trailer Taillights Dim
Updated 04/03/2025 | Published 04/02/2025 >
Question:
I had my 2014 Honda CRV at your place in Wentzville 2-3 years ago. ETrailer did a free install because they were in need of a video for that year and model. Its worked fine until the last few months. The right rear turn signal is weaker/dimmer than the left one. Now I have another problem. The rear taillights are staying on after I disconnect the car and the lights and ignition are turned off. What could be causing the taillights to stay on. Could it be the converter going bad? Two converters were installed on each side. Thank you!

Hey Mark, what you described is definitely the main converter box of the trailer wiring harness being damaged. This would have been caused by a trailer wiring short that made it's way to the converter box and damaged it. I know its frustrating but the box is designed to do this in the event of a short to basically stop the potential of the short making its way to the taillight circuits.
It's probably not the answer you want to hear but it's time for a new trailer wiring harness like the part # 118561 which we have found to be the most durable option that fits your 2014 Honda CR-V.

Hi Jameson, I don't recall this being installed during the install at your facilty. Is it possible to look at my wprk order to see exactly what was used? Where is this converter box mounted/located on the Honda? The converter box shown in the parts diagram is not the one I was questioning. Maybe I am using the wrong term but I am referring to the diodes just ahead of the tail lights. There are 2 on each side, one for the taillight and one for the brake light. Is there a converter box needed if these diodes are being used? Thank you?
