Roadactive Suspension Kit for 2017 Toyota Tundra Towing Trailer with V-Nose

Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 03/26/2025

Question:

I have a 2013 Haulmark Passport 6x12 V-nose cargo trailer with a GVWR of 2990 lbs. Its loaded weight is 2056 lbs and a Togue Weight of 350 lbs. I’ve looked for a weight distribution hitch to help distribute the load and keep the rear of my truck from sagging, but the tongue in my trailer is too short for most WDH’s I’ve found. Most have 36 inch long bars and would hit the lower part of the front V-nose of the trailer. Would any of the short arm WDH’s with the Curt bolt in chain hooks work for my application or still be too long for this trailer? Even though the Timbren SES bump stop replacements won’t redistribute the weight like a WDH, should I cut my loses and just go with the Timbren set-up? I tow with a 2017 Tundra Crewmax with a 5.7 engine and factory tow package. The door codes translates to me being able to tow 9200 lbs with a Tongue Weight about a 1,000 lbs. Thank you! Trae

Hey Trae, so weight distribution can be used on trailers that have v-noses like what yours has but you have to use bolt on chain hangers that will sit under the v-nose.

Now with that said for the weight of your trailer I would actually just go with a Roadactive suspension kit part # RAS34FR. This gives you the support you are wanting to reduce the sag and is a lot less of a headache than dealing with WD on a v-nose trailer and the harshness of a Timbren. Unlike other options the RAS kits do everything really well without any drawbacks. You get the support you want, easy install, easily adjustable, and unlike Timbrens the ride quality loaded and unloaded is improved as well as improved handling loaded and unloaded.

Hey Trae, how did things turn out with the RoadActive Suspension kit on your Tundra? Did it give you the support and ride quality you were hoping for when towing your Haulmark trailer? Your update could make it easier for others with similar setups.
