Recommended Replacement for a 15k Airxcel AC

Updated 11/20/2025 | Published 03/13/2025

Question:

I have two Airxcel 15000 but AC units I need to replace. What do you recommend that would be plug and play?

Hey Blaine, since Coleman-Mach makes the Airxcel ACs I'd recommend going with the Furrion Chill HE Replacement RV Air Conditioner for Coleman Setup # FR42PV.

This AC is rated at 15k Btu's, will plug into your existing Coleman setup, and includes a start capacitor that offers an extra boost to help jump start the unit when a campsite or generator doesn't provide enough power.

What kind of trailer do you have? Please feel free to let me know in the comments if there's anything else I can do to help!

Is the start capacitor similar to a soft start? My RV is a 2018 Keystone Avalanche 375RD. Both AC are fully ducted. Do I need two 15,000 AC or could I replace one with a 13,500?

@Blaine Hey Blaine, a SoftStart and a start capacitor are not the same thing. A SoftStart is a bit more sophisticated and reduces the starting current while providing protection, and a start capacitor is just a simple capacitor. You don't necessarily need two 15k ACs, you could replace one with a 13.5k or vice versa.

How would the Furion Chill Cube work instead of the HE? I have done some reading on the Chill but confused about the thermostat impact. I would need to still be able to control the furnace.

@BlaineW Are you asking if the Cube would replace an HE or are you looking for a comparison between the two? Both use different thermostats but both of them can control a furnace.

@JamesonC You recommended the HE to replace my current Airxcel. Looking for comparison between HE and Cube as for reliability, effectiveness, quietness, ease of installation, etc. Is one better for me than the other? Don't want to have to run new wiring for thermostat. Thanks

@BlaineW The Cube is basically superior in all ways. It blows colder, is much quieter, has cooler (pun intended) features like remote thermostat, and draws less amperage as well. Thermostat wiring might be only thing you can reuse for either unit.
