Why Aren't There Safety Chains Made for Demco Hijacker Autoslide Fifth Wheel Hitch

Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 03/01/2025

Question:

I’m thinking of purchasing the Demco DM29GV. I don’t see any dedicated safety chain attachment points on the hitch. Can you tell me if there are any? The hitch uses the puck system so that’s not an option. Can you supply an owners manual? Thanks!

Hey Loren, so this is a great question but the short answer is that you don't have to use safety chains with fifth wheel hitches and that's why the Demco Hijacker part # DM29GV does not have any made for it.

The law about safety chains is that if there's a hitch ball you need chains which is why gooseneck setups have them and fifth wheel setups do not as they have king pins instead of hitch balls.

Hey Loren, did that clear things up about why the Demco Autoslide hitch doesn’t include safety chain points? Knowing how it worked out for you could help others who are comparing fifth wheel and gooseneck setups.
