Why Does RV AC Start and Then Stop Continuously?
Updated 02/25/2025 | Published 02/09/2025 >
Question:
I had to replace my Dometic Quick Cool A/C with a Dometic Fresh Jet. I wanted to upgrade the old control box with something newer, so I installed Control Kit 3316230.700 But the A/C will not run. It starts-stops, starts-stops, continuously until I shut it off at the thermostat. I had to run an external -12 dc wire from the power source and splice into the -12 vdc at the control box -12 to thermostat. Why wont the A/C run? Thanks for your help.

Hey Aeron, thanks for reaching out!
Have you moved the location of the thermostat at all? If it's closer to a register, then it could be that the air is blowing directly on the thermostat and giving it a misreading.
Let me know!

Hi Jon. Thanks for responding to my question. The thermostat is where it has always been and, as I said, the A/C will not even start. It tries to start, power supplied for maybe 1/100 of a second, only enough to make the fan turn 1/2 revolution. Then shuts off and goes through the same process repeatedly until I turn it off at the thermostat. The A/C works just fine with the old controller and thermostat combo. There are only 4 wires from the A/C to the thermostat and they are all tagged, -12 vdc from source and to thermostat, +12vdc from source, +12 vdc to thermostat and last wire is communication from A/C to therm. It seems like a very simple setup and nearly impossible to get it wrong but I have tried two different controllers (they come with a thermostat) and both give me the same problem.
