Trailer Hitch Options for a 2022 Jayco Jay Flight SLX8

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/02/2025

Question:

I have a 2022 Jayco Jayflight SLX8. I want to tow a golf cart 1900lbs on a small trailer 600 lbs behind it. Can you recommend a hitch? I have heard I should not use the bumper to attach a hitch. Maybe this is not true?

Hey Andre, thanks for reaching out!

You can potentially use a bumper mounted hitch receiver like the etrailer # e38HR if your 2022 Jayco Jay Flight SLX8 manual says it's okay to do so. Some bumpers are secured enough to the trailer that a bumper hitch won't pull the bumper off, but others are lightly secured to the trailer, so it really just depends on what the manufacturer says.

If Jayco says not to use a bumper hitch, then I recommend checking out the Curt # 13703 which fits RVs with a 22" - 72" wide frame. Since this secures to the frame, it will be able to handle the extra weight just fine.

Please keep in mind that not all States say it's legal to double tow, so you'll need to check the laws in any States you travel through to make sure it's okay.

Hey Andre, did you get a chance to check your Jayco manual to see if a bumper hitch is allowed for your setup? Knowing what you found could help others trying to tow a small trailer or golf cart behind a similar camper.

Jayce does not allow. I found a bumper strengthener which allows for 400lbs load, which I did. Then I added a bolt on receiver and put my bikes on the back.

@AndreD Sounds like a great alternative! What strengthener did you end up going with?

@Andre That's a great idea. The SafetyStruts # MO34VR (1SNUHD) are definitely a great way to help out with that!
