Can the SeaSucker Ski and Snowboard Carrier be Installed on the Back of a Transit Class B Camper Van

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/01/2025

Question:

Can these be mounted on a vertical surface instead of a roof? We have a 2020 Ford Transit Hi-Roof van converted into a Class B campervan, and this looks like it could do a great job of holding the skis on the back. A roof rack isnt an option as the whole setup is a bit over 10 feet high.

Hey Pete, thanks for reaching out!

The SeaSucker Ski and Snowboard Carrier # 298-SK2425 can be mounted on a vertical surface (like the back of your Transit), as long as the boards are able to be parallel to the ground. I reached out to my contact at SeaSucker who verified this and also cautioned against having the skis/snowboards perpendicular to the ground as that can cause warping and it might prove difficult for the carrier to keep a strong hold of them due to gravity.

One last thing to keep in mind is that the vacuum cups need to be mounted directly to a metal surface, so it can't be mounted to a wrapped vehicle (like what you see with newer Class A motorhomes).

Will carrying the skis/boards parallel to the ground work out for your setup?

Hey Pete, did the SeaSucker ski and snowboard carrier work out on the back of your Transit when mounted parallel to the ground? Your experience could point others toward the best way to carry gear on taller campervans.

@JonG Actually, we ended up rearranging things inside the van and made room for the skis in there, so I didn't end up getting the SeaSucker carrier.

@PeteR Glad you were able to get it figured out! Playing Tetris when packing things up (at least that's what I call it) definitely pays off. The only problem is making sure everything fits back in place on the return journey.
