Can I Tow a Trailer with the Yakima FullBack Installed on my 2022 Jeep Cherokee?

I have a 2022 Jeep Cherokee and want to mount a Yakima Fullback 3 on the hatch but also have the ability to tow a small trailer What measurements do I need to take to ensure this rack will work?

Hey Will, thanks for reaching out!

The Yakima FullBack 3 Bike Rack # Y02633 is one of my absolute favorite trunk mount racks, and while it does fit your 2022 Jeep Cherokee, there isn't a way to use it while also towing a small trailer. The bikes will hang out too far and you'll have to use a really long adapter which will reduce the weight rating of your hitch receiver. If you check out the attached photo you'll see what I'm talking about.

In order to accomplish this we'll need to find an alternative way to carry your bikes so there is enough room for the trailer. Are you needing to carry 2 bikes and you just wanted the extra space just in case, or are you needing to carry 3 bikes every time? Also, do you know what trailer you'll be towing?

If you can give me some additional insight, I would love to help you figure this puzzle out!

It will be for three bikes, two adults and one kids It’s a custom made trailer with roof top tent. Wish I could attach a picture in this response for reference

@WillS Thanks for the photos you sent to me in a separate email! Since the tongue on your trailer is 29" from the reiver to the storage box on your tongue, you actually might be able to use the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # EBMK2EL which extends your hitch ball out an additional 16" from the center of your hitch pin hole. When we've installed the FullBack 3-bike rack the arms hang out about 35" so you'll potentially have about 10" of extra space when using the longer ball mount. If your trailer didn't have that really long tongue this wouldn't be possible so thank you for sending that info over!
