Video Transcript for etrailer Ball Mounts - Fixed Ball Mount - EBMK2EL Review

Today were going to review part number EBMK2EL, this is the Etrailer.com Super Extra Long Ball Mount Kit for 2-inch hitch receivers. This kit will include the one extra long ball mount, it will include a pin and a clip; it will include Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Ball System that comes with a 1 7/8-inch hitch head and a 2-inch hitch ball head and also the Etrailer.com storage bag. This kit will be nice to use when youre going to be towing multiple trailers that would have different size couplers and also if you need to extend the hitch ball out away from the back of the tow vehicle.Im first going to go over this extra long ball mount. This is part number 80232. This ball mount will have a 2-inch drop or a 3 -inch rise depending on how you use it; and basically that is measured byright now it is in the drop position so a 2-inch drop would be measured from the top of this shank to the top of where the ball is seated. So that distance will be 2 inches or 2-inch drop. Now if you turn it over and insert it in your receiver this way, thatll give the ball in a rise position so you measure from the top of the shank to where the ball is seated here.

So that distance would be -inch rise. Now this ball mount does have a gross towing weight capacity of 6,000 and a tongue weight capacity of 600 pounds. And this is considered is a super extra long ball mount. So the measurement from the center of the hitch pinhole here to the center of where the ball would be inserted into your ball mount is going to be 16 inches. So, basically just to give you an idea, from the center there to there would be 16 inches.

So that would extend your hitch ball out 16 inches from the hitch pinhole. Now the other part included in here is the pin and clip part number PC3. This is a 5/8-inch diameter pin and the clip and that used to insert when your ball mount is inserted into your hitch receiver. The pin and clip would go in and attach it to hold into the hitch. Our next item is the converti-ball interchangeable ball system part number 901B. This comes with a shank and then two interchangeable hitch balls. One is 1 7/8-inch just stamped on the top there and other is 2-inch hitch ball.

This shank and the ball put on it will have a gross towing weight capacity of 10,000 pounds. Now this does come with a washer and a nut that is used to install the shank to the ball mount. The nut size on this is 1 inches. And it also comes with a cotter pin which when this installed and tightened down, theres a hole in the shank. You slide the cotter pin through, spread it and that would keep the nut from reversing off the shank.

I do want to give you a few dimensions on this shank; the diameter and the length. The diameter on this shank will be 1 inch. The length which is from here to here of this shank would be 2 inches. And just to show you how the balls will be installed onto the shank, theres a hole in the shank and basically theres an integrated pin here. If you go to the side that has a dimple on it, you just push that, pull the pin all the way out and then just line it up with the hole on the shank, push it all the way through until its flush and you have a 1 7/8-inch hitch ball. To remove it, just push the side with the dimple, pull it all the way out, remove it. If you need to go to the bigger hitch head, again, find the side with the dimple, pull it all the way out, put it in all the way through and in a few seconds youve changed from a 1 7/8-inch to a 2-inch hitch ball. Another nice feature on this is the integrated pin will have a rubber ring on this end and also on the other end so when it is completely closed it will seal both sides to keep any dirt or foreign material from getting inside the bitch ball head. The remaining product will be the Etrailer.com storage bag part number ETBMB. This is a durable bag. It will work great not only carrying ball mounts but it will carry other towing equipment like tie down straps, pins, clips, locks. A strong handle makes it easy to carry; has a very large zipper opening, gives full access to the bag. This bag is made of a durable nylon material which will provide many years of use. It has a no-hassle zipper closure, handle for transportation and let me give you a few dimensions on this bag. The overall length is 16 inches, height is 5 inches and the width is 4 inches wide. Now on this kit, because it does include the extra long ball mount, this ball mount will be too long to fit in the bag. Everything else will be able to fit in there but this is one of the few kits where the ball mount is too long to actually fit in the bag. But that should do it for our review of part number EBMK2EL. .

2" Drop, Super Extra-Long Ball Mount Kit

by:

Hitch was correct and it had all its parts. The only negative was the bag they give you to carry the hitch in - doesn’t fit in the bag, the hitch is too long.

by:

Very high quality and just what I needed to allow tailgate to be opened when my trailer is hooked up.

by:

Not sure why they sent the bag. It's not big enough for the extra-long ball mount.

by:

High quality products at a great price! Easy to follow instructions and an easy install. Great experience!

by:

Haven’t used it yet, but looks good. I’m not sure what height offset I need, so this kit gives me several options, plus two ball sizes. Really good value.

by:

Ball mount kit arrived quickly (within a few days) upon placing order online. Parts were shipped loose in box and bottom flap on box was open when received. Fortunately, all the parts were still in box and in good condition. Kit includes ball mount hardware I need to pull trailers with different hitch heights.

I installed the draw tite hitch onto my brand new 2018 Subaru outback. I'm 68 years old, not as strong as I was, but proud to say I did the job all by myself in about 4 hours. Here are some tips you may find useful.
Watch the video-it’s pretty good.
I had difficulty getting the exhaust system down and worried about getting it up again from the moment I got it down...read on-help will follow.
I bought a stepup drill bit which worked great for drilling the hole in the chasis.
I clamped the hitch onto a floor jack, then rolled it and raised it into position.
Used metal shears to easily cut out the heat shield as per the video.
Your inclination will be the screw the fishing tool provided all the way up the carriage bolt. That won’t work; just screw it on to the tip of the bolt.
I couln’t get the exhaust hangars in place even after lubricating them with wd-40. I dropped the rubber hangars into undiluted liquid car wash soap which made them much more slippery than the wd-40. After that the rubber hangars slipped into place pretty easily-that’s my best tip.
Finding the electric connection plug for the wiring harness was almost as hard as installing the hitch. I was very happy with how the job came out. Good luck.

by:

Nice heavy duty kit. Note that the mount is drilled for the larger 1 1/4" shank diameter. The balls match of course.

by:

Great product. Definitely easier with 2 people to lift up the hitch for final installation

by:

I received the package but the drop was not in the box.

by:

I ordered the Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches. My order was delivered fast, but it only came with one ball where two were specified. George and Paula got on it immediately and I received the missing ball in just 3 days. Nice recovery team! I would have given five stars for the product quality, service, and delivery had it been a complete order from the start, but that said, great service!

by:

This is the one thing I ordered with my hitch, wiring harness, etc. that I'm not sure about. Either the balls are slightly too small or the pins are too small for the hitch I have, so when I haul something, it makes an almost rattling noise. Super annoying! I also haven't needed both size drops. But if I ever do, I'm sure I'll be glad I got it.

by:

It did the trick, although it is starting to rust.

by:

Thank you etrailer for the quality products I received early last year. We needed a trailer hitch to install on our Subaru Forester for our move from Gig Harbor, WA to Spokane. We received the hitch hardware including the tow bar and electrical harness. The entire process took 4 hours. The installation process went off without a hitch (bun intended) using detailed videos I found online.
Thank you etrailer.

by:

My experience sucked with this company. I ordered 1 unit but received and was billed for 2 units. I have 1 car with a hitch and would never need 2. I then attempted to get a refund and return the extra unit I was billed for. Unfortunately. the cost to return the unit by ANY method of shipping available was more than the cost of the unit itself.
Will never use this site again.

by:

The customer service was polite and knowledgeable in their recommendations. The package delivered complete and without incident and install was a breeze. the only reason for the four stars instead of five is for the competitiveness of their pricing.

by:

I am a frequent etrailer customer, the variety and availability of quality components and excellent service is what keeps me coming back. When trailering I strive to be as safe as possible, which is why I chose this heavy duty ball mount to tow my 10,000# car hauler trailer. With this very robust piece, I can be assured that the connection between my truck and trailer is secure.

by:

Great products, Fantastic service and very fast shipping. We are already placing another order.

by:

I probably overkilled with tis kit, but I am ready for just about anythng now! I was somewhat surprised to find a 250 ft-lb requirement on the ball! Best I could do was use my 18" pipe wrench and stand on the thing- I probably got to 250- or more!

by:

I purchased the etrailer.com 2-3/4 " Rise or 4" Drop Ball Mount Kit, Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver and Twist-in 7-Pole RV-Style Trailer Connector for my 2011 Chevy Silverado. Quick Delivery! All the necessary parts arrived in perfect condition. Directions were spot on and the instructional videos were great.

by:

The drop ball mount is the perfect size for my Jeep. The versatile hitch balls are convenient. Thank you for putting together a great kit, providing excellent communication, and delivering it quickly.

by:

This item gave me the extra clearance that I needed when using my cargo carrier. Etrailer has everything that I needed for new trailer hitch.

by:

Good value and having the 2 options saved us because the higher rise ball mount did not work with the accessory bike rack and I was able to go with the lower rise instead.

by:

This kit is exactly what I needed. I have two trailers one with a 1 7/8 and the other is 2. This allows me the option of just swapping out hitches. The bag also can hold the 7 pole to flat 4 adapter.

  • Parts Needed to Tow a Trailer with a 2017 Ford Explorer with 2.3L Eco-Boost Engine
I'll start out by saying that you're always limited by the lowest rated component in your towing setup, even if certain components are rated for higher weights; I believe the "Class II Trailer Tow Package" refers to factory installed towing components that likely include a transmission cooler (and possibly other parts), and not the Class rating of the hitch. It should also be noted that the available hitches for the 2017 Ford Explorer are all Class III hitches, which technically are rated...

  • Mounting Swagman XCS to the Back of Jeep Wrangler
Swagman Traveler XCS # S64664 will definitely work mounted behind your motorhome while you're towing your utility trailer or your Wrangler. Just make sure your tow bar is long enough so you won't have any issues. From the back of the Traveler XCS to the furthest point is 20" far and 17-3/8" high. You can use those measurements to check if there's enough clearance between the bike rack and the towed vehicle. As for mounting it behind your Wrangler, you would first need a ball mount shank....

  • Is it Safe to Use Extended Ball Mount to Tow a Trailer for Extra Clearance for Trunk Mount Bike Rack
The use of an extended ball mount like the etrailer Ball Mount Kit - Super Extra-Long - 3/4" Rise or 2" Drop - 6,000 lbs # EBMK2EL is perfectly safe and a good solution for extra clearance. This extra-long ball mount extends the ball 16" from the hitch pin hole so as long as that is the clearance you're looking for you're good to go. I am assuming you have a trunk mounted bike rac; the problem people typically run into comes from trying to use extenders and adapters in order to tow their...

  • Can I Use A Hitch Extension w/ Curt Trailer Hitch # C13095 On a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder
When using a hitch extension it will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the Curt Trailer Hitch, # C13095, by 50 percent. The tongue weight capacity of that hitch is 500 lbs, so if you use a hitch extension it will be reduced to 250 lbs. So you will not want to use a hitch extension when towing a trailer. For towing you could use a extended ball mount like the Ball Mount Kit, # EBMK2EL. This will extend the hitch ball 11-1/4 inches from the hitch pin hole and you will not lose the weight...
