Can The 2,000 lb Rated EcoHitch 306-X7317 Pull A Small Trailer And 420 lb Motorcycle?

Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 01/15/2025

Question:

Due to the 2000lbs trailer weight i think it can do what Im asking of it but wanted to ask you. Do you think it could hold a 100lbs motorcycle carrier with a 420lbs motorcycle on it.

Hey Justice, thanks for reaching out. The EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch # 306-X7317 has a 2,000 lb towing capacity and a 200 lb tongue weight capacity. If you are talking about pulling a small 100 lb trailer with a 420 lb motorcycle, then the answer is yes. You would be well under the 2,000 lb capacity so that would be safe and fine.

If you are talking about a hitch mounted motorcycle carrier (without any wheels on the ground), then answer would be no. The 420 lb motorcycle would be much to heavy to be supported by the hitch alone, and you would be exceeding the 200 lb tongue weight rating. This hitch is a light duty hitch so pulling a small trailer would be the only option here.

I also want to add that the EcoHitch # 306-X7317 will fit the following vehicles:

2016 - 2022 Volkswagen Passat
2014 - 2015 Volkswagen Passat 1.8L I4 Engine - Turbocharged
2012 - 2015 Volkswagen Passat 2.0L I4 Diesel Engine - Turbocharged and 3.6L VR6 models
2012 - 2014 Volkswagen Passat 2.5L I5 Engine

Just comment below and let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Hey Justice, how did things go with the EcoHitch on your Passat? Did you end up towing the small trailer with your motorcycle? Your results could help others trying to figure out the same setup.
