Hey Stephen let me help you with that! To flat tow your 2016 Ford Explorer XLT, I recommend using the following parts:
Tow Bar and Safety Chains - etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar item # e74ZR
Base Plate Kit - Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit item # RM-524446-5. It looks like the XLT's have the 3.5 EcoBoost engine so if that's correct this is the one you'll need to go with. If you do not have an the EcoBoost engine you'll want item # RM-524453-5.
Wiring Harness - Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit item # RM-15267.
Battery Disconnect - Roadmaster Battery Disconnect for Towed Vehicle w/ Flat Tow Brake System item # RM-766
Supplemental Braking System - Demco Air Force One Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Air Brakes item # SM99243
High Low Adapter - The tow bar needs to be within 3" of level. If you measure the height of the inside top of the hitch receiver tube on your RV, and the height difference is more than 3 inches above/below the base plate tab height, you'll need a high/low adapter. I have linked a FAQ article that explains all this in more detail along with our selection of adapters.
