What is a Complete Flat Tow Set Up For a 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid?

Let's you set up with all the parts you need to start flat towing your 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid!

Let's start with the baseplate. I am assuming that the 2021 Escape is NOT the plug-in Hybrid (if it is, please let me know as it will require different base-plate and tow bars). The Blue Ox Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # BLU55XR is going to be a great fit and will pair nicely with our etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar # e47ZR.

Now for the wiring you are going to want the Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Way to 6-Way Coiled Adapter Cord # RM-15267, this kit is great because it even comes with the 7 way to 6 way cord to connect the coach to the towed vehicle, and it comes with the 6 way for the front of the Escape. The Escape is known to drain the battery while flat towing, so you are also going to want the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25 to keep the battery charged while flat towing. No one wants to arrive to their camping destination with a dead battery.

Last thing you are going to need is a braking system as it is required in all the states now to have one. It all depends on the brakes in the coach on what system you are going to need, so I am going to give you 3 different options. The first option is a portable option and will work with whatever kind of brakes your coach has (hydraulic, air, or air over hydraulic) the Brake Buddy Classic 3 Portable Flat Tow Brake System - Preset # HM39494. The next options are going to be for a one time install, so you will not have to take a unit in and out of the vehicle every time you flat tow. If your coach has hydraulic brakes you will want the Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo # SM99251, and for air brakes # SM99243. With any of the braking systems I mentioned you will also need to install a # RM-88400 so that your brake lights work properly.

Hey Will, how did things go getting your 2021 Escape Hybrid set up with the Blue Ox base plate and the SD tow bar? I’m curious if the diode wiring kit and charge line kept everything working smoothly on your trips. Your update could make it easier for others setting up a similar flat tow setup.
