Looking For Suspension Upgrades For 2020 Puma 253FBS 5th Wheel

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/10/2024

Question:

I have a 2020 Puma 253FBSs fifth wheel I would like to upgrade the suspension on. I am thinking the MR87ZR equalizer and the MR46ZR upgrade kit. Here are my measurements: 35 inch wheel base, 58 3/4 inch Hanger spread, equalizer is 6 inches long and 4 inches high, shackles are 2 1/4 inches long, 6000 lb axels. Are the above equalizer and upgrade kit recommended for my measurements? Thank you.

Hey Bill, thanks for reaching out. The MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit # MR46ZR is exactly correct for you. It comes with the 2-1/4" HD shackles, bronze bushings and wet bolts, all of which will be a nice upgrade for your 5th wheel. With proper care these suspension components will last the life of the trailer.

The equalizer is going to be a bit more tricky. The new equalizer needs to be identical in size to the current one. There is a small amount of tolerance like 1/2" or less. Any more than this can throw your suspension out of center and cause things to not line up properly. That said, the # MR87ZR equalizer is 6-1/2" long and only 3-1/4" tall and in my opinion this is not within the tolerance for an equalizer. There is a chance it may work but it may also throw things out of center and cause all sorts of headache. I am sorry to say that we do not offer a shock absorbing equalizer that matches your measurements. The only option would be a direct replacement part # TREQ310 which is exactly 6" long and 4" tall so this is what I recommend going with.

Adding the MORryde shackle kit will still be a nice upgrade for your suspension and will allow things to ride more smoothly. I will be here if you have any other questions just let me know.

Hey Bill, how did things go with the MORryde shackle kit and the TREQ310 equalizer on your Puma fifth wheel? Did the fit line up the way you needed? Your update could make it easier for others working on the same suspension upgrade.
