Everchill Refrigerator 324-000119 Struggling To Reach And Hold Proper Temp

Published 12/09/2024

Question:

I am struggling with getting proper temps in the freezer and fridge. The settings in the manual are not clear, and when empty, in low ambient temps, the freezer gets to about 3 degrees, but the fridge only down to 41. In the manual, it says in summer, put freezer compartment on 2 where 1 says minumum and 5 says maximum. That seems backwards. Also says put fridge on 2. But for winter, it says freezer at 4 close to max and fridge at 3. What does min/max mean for the freezer? It seems the freezer setting knob is only moving an air diverter for air moving to fridge section. Nothing makes sense, and I cant keep the food in safe temps. When the fridge has contents, although not full, after a day or so of operating, the temps rise as much as to 20 in the freezer and 47 in the fridge with ambient temps ranging from 50 to 78. Also, what are the power requirements. I am using 12V from fully charged coach batteries in the motorhome boondocked, and also while parked at home hooked up to shorepower. I have tried running it from an Anker 2600 power bank also without success. I understand 12V, but what are the amps/wattage rqmts?

Hey Mike, thanks for reaching out. The Everchill Refrigerator part # 324-000119 will draw 8-9 amps on startup then once it reaches temp it will draw around 3 amps to keep temp. The max amp rating is 20. 3 amps at 12v would be 36 watts so you will want to make sure the unit is receiving proper power. Another thing that could cause the issue you described is improper ventilation. This fridge needs at least 1" on all sides for proper airflow otherwise it will have trouble reaching and holding temp so check on that as well please. Also check and make sure the drain tube is not clogged. Also just to be safe make sure the unit is getting a full 12v because low power is the most common cause of the fridge not getting cold.

Check all this and let me know how it goes and if the problem persists, I will be here to help you troubleshoot further.

Thanks Jesse. Drain tube is fine. I have 1.5 inches on sides and top and about 3-4 inches in back. Drain tube is fine. 36 watts? Wouldn't that be 244 watts? I have 4 6-volts batteries in series/parallel putting out almost 13 volts. I think the main issue is the temp settings. It seems the freezer setting is merely adjusting a damper controlling air flow to the fridge section. The min/max, 1-5 setting, with the manual stating #2 in summer and #4 in winter, which seems counterintuitive to min/max. And the fridge temp setting says #2 (emptier) in summer and #3 (fuller) in winter, but there is no where in manual or on the temp settings that says colder or warmer. I've tried multiple various settings and it just isn't cold enough. What do those settings in the manual actually mean?

@Michael Yes so with the settings 1 is the warmest with 5 being the coldest which does seem counterintuitive if they say #2 is summer and 4# in winter. In my experience the fridge needs to run a bit colder in the summer to counteract high temps and vise versa. You can try resetting the unit since sometimes this will do the trick but it sounds like you have already done this. The unit can be reset by disconnecting from power for 5 minutes or more. That is really going to be the last troubleshooting step we haven't covered. Otherwise you have done all of the steps we would do to diagnose an issue on your trailers side. If it still isn't working at this point I would have to assume an internal issue with the control module or the thermostat in which case it will need to be serviced/replaced.
