Does the Radiator Need to be Emptied and Relocated to Install the EcoHitch Trailer Hitch

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/26/2024

Question:

In the video, the installer removes the two shovel looking things but I didnt see him re-install them. Are they not needed? Also he casually mentions moving the two coolant lines, and to just follow the manufacturers instructions. You mean the instructions that came with my truck that shows how to move coolant lines?? : It does not show him doing this. Would that not require draining the cooling system? That part just got glossed over.

Sam, those "shovel" pieces would need to be reinstalled, I'm not sure why they didn't show it. Also, for the lines, I believe the tech is mistaken when he's referring to relocating those coolant lines because according to TorkLift the EcoHitch Hidden Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7904 does not work with trucks that have the auxiliary cooler mounted in front of the radiator.

Hey Sam, how did things go with reinstalling those shovel pieces and checking the coolant line setup on your truck? Knowing what you found could really help others trying to fit the same EcoHitch front mount hitch.
