Can Truck with Body Lift Tow Trailer with Gooseneck Hitch

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/20/2024

Question:

I have 2014 Ram 3500 long bed and I installed the BandW GNRK 1314. My truck has a 3 inch body lift so the stock ball is only 1 inch above the bed. Are there options out there for my issue? I would like to keep my lift if possible. Also, the u bolts would be too short to be usable. Are there other options or longer u bolts for this hitch? I also plan on converting my Lippert 5th wheel trailer hitch but would like to convert it to the Gen-Y style with this gooseneck.

Hey James, so towing a trailer with an in-bed hitch with a truck that has any type of lift gets pretty complicated pretty quickly. The problem you found is one reason. For body lifts there's not really anything you can do aside from maybe some type of modification to the hitch but that would be uncharted waters for us.

Best option is honestly remove the lift kit as lift kits and towing is just a lot of headache.

Second best option is go with a suspension lift instead of the body lift as that would allow the ball to sit where it needs to in relation to the truck bed. With that said next you'll need to lift the trailer suspension as it will want to be nose high which for that you'd need a lift kit like the part # RR55QX.

Hey James, what did you end up doing with your Ram’s body lift and the gooseneck hitch setup? Your experience could point others in the same situation toward a workable towing solution.
