Can Thule Hullavator Be Used Without Bow and Stern Tie Downs

Question:
Hullo all, thank you for your helpful video. Jolly good. I just had a Thule Hullavator Pro installed on my 4WD, a Holden Colorado ute with canopy. I am about to purchase a new kayak a solid, hard-shell-like stitch inflatable kayak it does NOT have anchor points at stern and bow to attach any tie down straps. Are the tie down ropes necessary? If I were not to drive too fast could the kayak with Hullavator cradles lift off? The kayak seller believes I dont need any straps for tying the kayak to the 4WD. I am not so sure as I find it unusual NOT to tie the kayak for safety reasons. I am quite willing to look for a different type of kayak. THANKYOU so very much for ansering my question. So much appreciated! Keep up the good, expert advice

I would look for another kayak that can use bow and stern tie downs. They are also listed as a requirement in the Hullavator # TH898 instructions stating "Failure to use tie downs may result in loss of kayak/rack." It isn't worth the risk of losing your kayak and potentially causing an accident if it comes off of the roof.

Hey, how did things go with your Hullavator Pro and the new kayak? Did you end up finding one that allows for proper bow and stern tie-downs? Your update could make it easier for others choosing a kayak for the same setup.
