Does Sticky Residue on Roof Need to be Removed to Install Roof Membrane on RV

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/15/2024

Question:

I am replacing my TPO room membrane with this kit. When I took the TPO off, it left a sticky residue on the OSB. Will I need to remove all of that first? Also heard about adding a Luan plywood over the top of the OSB bc the material is more transparent, will this glue be compatible?

Hey David,

The LaSalle Bristol RV Roof Replacement Kit w/ XTRM Membrane # 344270KIT30 does need to be installed on a clean surface per the installation instructions:

- Make sure the deck is clear of all debris. NOTE: XTRM PLY membrane must be installed on a clean, smooth, yet pourus
surface.

The glue that comes in the kit will be compatible with your plywood, yes. From what I'm seeing, it doesn't look like you NEED to put plywood on top of the OSB material, but it won't hurt anything either. Just be sure to smooth out the lines where your seams are for the membrane to install properly.

Hey David, how did the roof replacement go with the LaSalle Bristol kit? Did the adhesive bond well once you cleaned or covered the OSB? Your update could make it easier for others tackling the same project.
