Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/01/2024

Question:

I have a small boat trailer I can send pics that I want to install an extender to the trailer tongue so I can launch the boat without submerging the back end of the car. I need about a 5’ extension The tongue is galvanized 3”X3” . Any suggestions?

Hey Robert, thanks for reaching out!

The best options we have to add length to your trailer tongue is with the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge which comes with Weld-On # FHDPW330300 and Bolt-On # FHDPB330301 installations. These have a 5,000 lb max weight rating, but that decreases the more length you add.

Aside from this we have longer ball mounts like the Hidden Hitch Ball Mount # 80232 you purchased that can also help add more length to your setup.

Hey Robert, how did things turn out with the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge for your boat trailer? Did it give you the extra reach you needed to keep your car out of the water? Your update could make it easier for others working on the same setup.
