What is Difference Between Curt Spyder and Curt Above Bed Fifth Wheel Rail to Gooseneck Adapter

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/13/2024

Question:

I am getting ready to purchase the Curt Spyder Gooseneck hitch. After watching the video on the install I am concerned it may not work. If it is not a good fit on my truck can I exchange it for the Curt Bent Plate gooseneck hitch?

Hey Raymond, the Curt Spyder part # 16085 that you referenced was designed to fit the standard above bed fifth wheel rail kits so as long as that's what you have it would work but feel free to let me know more about your setup and why you think it may not fit.

One advantage that the Curt gooseneck hitch adapter part # 16055 has is that it provides a 3 inch offset which will help with a little more turning clearance. This adapter is designed to fit the innermost fifth wheel rail slots and the Spyder instead fits the middle set so maybe that's what you were thinking? It's more common for rails to not have the inner slots though.

Hey Raymond, how did things turn out with the Curt Spyder gooseneck hitch on your truck? Did the fit with your fifth wheel rails work out as expected or did you end up going with the Bent Plate version instead? Your update could make it easier for others comparing these two options.
