What Size Hole Saw is Needed to Install Smartplug Inlet # SM39FR

Updated 12/23/2025 | Published 10/10/2024

Question:

Im installing a smart plug for the first time on a 2022 Sprinter van, 170. What size hole saw will I need to use? Can I assume the hole would be the same size as the older shore power plug that twists into place. This information would be helpful if included on the install video. Much thanks., Bill

Hey Bill, so Smartplug recommends the hole size to be ideally 2.43 inches. 2.5 inches is adequate and 2.625 inches would be on the larger side.

Hey Bill, how did the hole sizing work out when you installed the SmartPlug on your Sprinter van? It’d be great to know if the 2.43-inch size gave you a clean fit. Your update could make it easier for others doing the same upgrade.

@JamesonC Those specs worked for me. I used several sources to verify the size and how to cut the hole since I wanted to be careful when I cut a hole in the side of the van's sheet metal. This item works well for me and am happy with the purchase. I recommend using this item when installing shore power to the AdWagon.
