Parts Needed to Install Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty on 2022 Chevrolet Suburban With Tow Package

Question:

I have a 2022 4WD 1/2 ton Chevy Suburban with tow package and will be towing a two axle 21 ft. Winnebago travel trailer. For a brake controller, I think I want the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty proportional. I assume the Suburban is pre-wired, so I think the appropriate controller would be the RED24FR, right? If I run into a problem lack of pre-wire, is that when Id look at all those units with harnesses like RED52VR or RED43CR or RED44CR orRED74CR or RED24CR or RED67CR or RED87CR or RED49CR or RED96CR or RED26CR and, if so, which one of those is appropriate? Thanks, Lyle in Tucson AZ

Hello Lyle; the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED24FR is my favorite brake controller so I think that is a great choice. With the factory tow package you should have a port under the dash that allows you to plug in the brake controller for installation instead of hardwiring. This will require a separate wiring harness like the ones you're referencing.

Redarc doesn't have a custom wiring harness for the 2022 Chevy Suburban but we can still make it work. What you will need is the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3016 along with the Redarc Tow-Pro Wiring Adapter for Tekonsha Brake Controller Harness # 331-TPH-017. The Tekonsha wiring harness will fit your factory tow port plug and the Redarc adapter will let you plug that wiring harness directly into the Tow-Pro Liberty for a complete plug and play installation.

We don't have any current Suburban installations that show where the location under the dash so I attached a brake controller installation from a 2015 below to help you get a better idea of what you're looking for. There isn't a lot of information out there so if you have trouble finding it I would call the dealer and ask them where the port is located.

Thank you for that good information that would solve the problem. One question, rather than use two adapting harnesses, why not just hard wire, or is that problematic? (I could have the dealer do it).

@LyleD most people are looking for a plug and play installation but you can definitely bypass the plug and splice in if you want to. You will still need a separate wiring harness which would be the universal # RED69FR.
