Troubleshooting Pop and Lock Conversion Kit Not Working When Wired Up Properly

Updated 09/04/2024 | Published 08/30/2024

Question:

2021 Ford Ranger with remote tailgate lock and ARE CX cap. I installed PL9772 from you guys today, everything fits properly. Wired the actuator to the tailgate brown/green and grey/green wires under the truck and the actuator doesnt function. My volt meter shows voltage spikes at the actuator when locking and unlocking car via fob. Is there a minimum voltage or time the actuator needs to function? Is it possible mine is not getting enough juice? Im thinking of using my 12v power supply when I get home to see if I can trigger the actuator with enough current. Any help you can offer would be great. John

Hey John, yeah I would go ahead and see if you can trigger the mechanism with a more direct battery source and see if that allows it to work. Is it making any sounds like it wants to work? I would also make sure all of the wires are connected securely and there's nothing bound up that might prevent movement from happening.

Jameson, Thanks for the response. Previously to your reply I connected it to a 12v source and it worked properly. The connection issue was narrowed down to the kit supplied wire taps. Knew I shouldn't use them, used them, regretted it, soldered instead. Issue is fixed now.
