Dimensions For Curt Trailer Hitch # C15400

Updated 04/22/2025 | Published 08/28/2024

Question:

Vehicle is a 2005 Chev 3500 silverado with a flat dumping bed. I want to add the Curt 15400 but cant find the measurement from the center of the hitch tube up to the truck frame where it bolts on? My concern is there is a safety cinch channel bar that extends down from the frame that keeps vehicles from running up under the dump bed and into the fuel tank.

Hello Thomas. In regards to the Curt # C15400 hitch, the total drop from the mounting hole to the top of the receiver tube is 6-1/2".

Good Afternoon, Thank you finding that information. This seems very low. Since I don't have a bumper in the way, could you recommend your receiver that has the shortest drop for a cab/chassis type install?

@ThomasL The hitch with the least drop would be the Curt # 13028 which is for the 2005 Chevy Silverado 3500 cab and chassis model. This hitch is made specifically for vehicles with a 34" frame when measured outside to outside so please confirm the frame size on your truck. The drop on this hitch is 4-1/2".

@JesseM That drop will work great, but the weights are small. I'm needing the hitch receiver to be able to handle an equipment trailer with tandem 7k lbs exiles so I total 14k or more. Any chance you've got that drop with the larger weight rating? If not, what is the shortest drop in receivers that are rated 14k and up? TEL

@ThomasL There is one other option, the B&W Heavy-Duty Trailer Hitch Receiver # BWHDRH25122 which has about 5-1/2" of drop from the flanges to the receiver tube. This one is 16K rated. There is nothing 16K+ rated that has the 4-1/2" drop.
