Replacement Wheel For A 2000 Big Tex 22GN Tandem Axle Dump Trailer

Question:

The plate on my 2000 Big Tex 22GN dual tandem trailer says the rims are 6.5x16. They are 8 lug rims. I need a spare wheel and tire. Big Tex wasn’t much help. Besides taking off a wheel and measuring offset, etc., how can I find a replacement wheel?

Hey David,

16" x 6.5" wheels are typically for vehicle use and not trailer so I would double check that you really have those size wheels. 16" x 6" wheels with an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern are much more common. What is the tire size and load range listed on the sidewall of the tires? The load range rating will be a single letter and is typically on the opposite side of the tire size. If you want to send me some pictures or just comment back with the size and load range I'd be happy to pick something out, pictures will most help with picking a matching wheel looks-wise if that's important for you.

Thanks Kevin. The trailer rating is 22000 GVWR and I use it to transport my dozer and backhoe. The tire size listed on the serial number plate is LT235/85R-16E. The rims are listed as 6.5x16 dual. I believe when a number precedes the diameter it refers to the bolt circle which is 6.5” with 8 lugs. The rim width is about 8”. These are the original rims.

@DavidW For 235/85R16 dual wheels with an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern we only have options under load range G (3,860lbs at 110 psi). This would be two sizes up from your current load range E tires so you would likely have some uneven wear if you mixed it with the other tires. Each of these comes with a 5.35" offset and would come with a standard silver dual wheel.
