Will The RV Roof Vent Lift Operator Be Damaged By A Vent Cover

Updated 08/06/2024 | Published 08/05/2024

Question:

I have a 2020 GD Solitude and the two vents I want covered are 14 x 14 and when opened that measures about 12”. Maxxair notes the following: Note: Some vents may not open fully when used with this vent cover. If opened 50 or more, the vent will still achieve maximum airflow. Will this not opening the full 12” cause damage to the motor that operates the vent opening and closing?

Hi Richard,

Covers like the MaxxAir II RV and Trailer Roof Vent Cover w/ EZClip # MA26JR are all that short because they're trying to stay at or below the height of the AC unit cover so that you won't need to remeasure your trailer height to know how low of a bridge you can go under. Manufacturers have stated that it's ok that it won't allow the lid of the vent to fully lift and that the motor should feel the pressure on it from the hitting the cover and stop. If you have a manual lift that's where you could potentially break the lift operator if you kept extending it.
