Check out the picture I attached of the Curt Hitch part # 13591 installed on a 2011 GMC Terrain. You'll see that the cross tube is almost completely out of sight. I also attached an install video and instructions for this hitch for you to check out.

To complete your towing setup you may also be interested in the Curt Trailer Wiring Harness part # 56094. Installation vid and instructions attached as well.

For a ball mount, hitch ball, and pin and clip, I would recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit, part # 989900. This is a kit which includes 2 ball mounts, a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, and a hitch pin and clip.
