Question:

I also get high trans temps when towing a 19 ft. toy hauler on grades or during summer months outside temps can get into the low 100s. The trans gets up to 220 deg. which I think will over a period of time will cause problems.My question is what type cooler , fan cooled,or air cooled. I think there is room where the stock cooler is and that would be in direct air flow.Can I run both the stock cooler and a after market one or just the after market one. Also should I run hard lines or rubber hose?

A supplemental transmission cooler would definitely help your transmission last as long as possible. As you may know, heat is the enemy for transmissions.

The Derale Series 8000 Transmission Cooler part # D13504 that you referenced would be an excellent choice for you. I would recommend you run this in conjunction with your factory cooler to maximize cooling efficiency. You would to run the output of your factory cooler to the # D13504 and then the output side of the cooler back to your transmission using the included rubber line. I attached an installation video for this cooler on a similar vehicle as yours for you to check out.

To make the installation as easy as possible I also recommend the Derale Radiator Adapter Fittings for GM # D13018 so you wouldn't have to cut or flair any lines.

Fan coolers are great, but since you have plenty of room for a cooler in front of your radiator and it will see plenty of airflow there a fan cooled cooler wouldn't be necessary.
