For your 1998 Dodge Ram HD turbo diesel short bed you will need the B&W Companion Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Turnoverball # BW43QR. The Kit # BW66QR is for 2006-2013 model years.

Hey, how did the B&W Companion sliding hitch work out on your 1998 Dodge Ram? Knowing how it fit could help others with older short-bed trucks.

@LazerS As far as pulling my 37' Montana, it did a nice job. Smooth. Getting it installed proved a bit challenging though. Ended up pulling the box off the truck to be able to get needed access to install and torque down two of the rear bolts. Stuff in the way in the tight quarters around the rear wheels and the frame. Then after I decided to lift the hitch off the truck for winter, I found one of the bolts had lost it's nut somehow. Now I need to fix that issue before pulling again. Found that with my particular 5th wheel, Montana High Country, I could have gone with a non-slider hitch and still have clearance on turning.

@Arnold Oh dang! Can't say I have heard of one of their nuts just backing off a bolt before. I would keep an eye on the others and check to make sure they are fully torqued down every so often. Wonder if there was a bit of movement from the hitch and that caused it. Weird. And yeah, some 5th wheels don't end up needing to have the slider with a short bed truck, but it also doesn't hurt to have it if you ever get into a situation and need it. Have fun out there on the road and let us know if there is anything else we can help with!
