How Often Should Trailer Hitch Bolts be Retorqued for 2024 Hyundai Tucson

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 07/07/2024

Question:

I recently had an e38KR hitch installed at uhaul which I purchased from etrailer. I know the torque specified was 48 for M10 bolts. I thought I read somewhere but cannot find it that you should retorque the bolts after a period of use. If this is correct could you advise me on any specifics I should be aware of pertaining to retorqueing. I use the hitch with an ebike rack.

Thanks for reaching out again, Joanne!

Yes, the etrailer Hitch Receiver # e38KR for your 2024 Hyundai Tucson states that the M10 bolts need to be torqued to 48 ft-lbs. Higher up on in the instructions we state just to periodically check the torque specs just to make sure none of the bolts have loosened up from road vibrations.

There isn't a set amount of time or anything for this since each person will have a different driving experience. I would say it's healthy to recheck the bolts after a few months and then maybe yearly after that - just making sure the bolts are still at 48 ft-lbs. To be honest though, the vast majority of people on the road don't ever check the torque again and are just fine.

Hey Joanne, how has the hitch been holding up with your ebike rack after checking the torque on those M10 bolts? It’d be great to hear if the periodic recheck kept everything tight. Your update could help others using the same setup.
