Can DC to DC Battery Chargers Be Paralleled To Provide a Higher Charging Amps?

Updated 07/08/2024 | Published 07/06/2024

Question:

Im looking at dc-dc chargers. My truck is a 2017 F350 diesel, two extra heavy duty alternators totalling 377 amps and dual 855 CCA batteries. Will be used to charge fifthwheel batteries, 8 Trojan T105 6vs totalling 900 AH. Trojan Tech advises 120-130 charging amps. Can I parallel two 60 amp dc-dc chargers for 120?

Expert Reply:

Unfortunately Jim, you cannot parallel DC-DC chargers as they would interfere with each other when checking the battery levels to prevent overcharging. A 50amp Charger # 331-BCDC1250D is going to be our highest output.
