Can Yakima Tracks or HD Crossbars Be Used for Offroad Animal Rails on a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 07/04/2024

Question:

Hi, i have a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee i removed the factory side rails and added a set of metal rails that attach to the plus nuts of the roof. They are raised plus nuts. i would like to have the yakima track system so i dont have fixed points on the roof racks. I adjust the bars often between the type of activity my rack requires will the plus nut track system work with the raised plus nuts on the jeep? Or should i go with the HD racks and mount them to the attached steel rails i have. Attached are photos of my jeep. It's Offroad Animal that makes my steel side rails. Thank you

Hey Drew, thanks for reaching out and providing all of your information!

The Yakima 54" Tracks for Roof Racks # Y01127 could potentially work, but the hardware that comes with it was designed for going through a roof and since your metal pieces are a bit thinner you might have to get creative with how the Yakima tracks attached to your Offroad Animal rails.

If you wanted to just switch your current setup to HD bars then you'll need the 60" Bars # Y01157 and the SL Adapter Kit # Y03541 to do so.

Hey Drew, what did you end up doing with the Yakima tracks and your Offroad Animal rails? Your results could really help others trying to decide between the track setup and the HD bars for similar roof systems.
