Installing a 7-Way Trailer Connector on a 2012 Nissan Pathfinder with a Factory 4-Way

Question:

I have a 2012 pathfinder and installing the 118266 7 way kit. My pathfinder already has a 4 pin flat. The connector in the 118266 kit is a 6 pin but the pathfinder has a 8 pin connector on the car. Can I match the wire colors and splice into this and if so the red is a smaller gauge wire paired with a blue the other are ok.

The connector on wiring harness # 118266 is a 7-Way, 6 pins around the perimeter and one in the center. You will not want to cut and splice, especially color for color because 9 times out of 10 it will not be correct. This is because there is no standard for wiring color/function.

Even with the factory tow package 4-Way you will still need the correct jumper harness and relays to make everything in the 7-Way fully functional. The 7-Way part and the harness attached to it should just plug in in place of the 4-Way.
