Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Fit For 2016 Mini Clubman

Updated 02/17/2026 | Published 06/28/2024

Question:

I have a Mini Cooper 2016 Clubman - that has a couple of differences. I am thinking about buying the Solaris Bones EX 2 bike rack. The Clubman top frame doesn't have a spoiler, but I do see a line at the top of my car roof. Would I be able to swap out and use the Hatch Huggers on my Clubman for the top straps? Do they connect from the inside or outside? Also my Clubman of course has the "Barn Doors" as they are called that swing out from the center. How should I connect the bottom straps with this setup? Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.

Hi John,

While we do have a trunk-mounted bike rack that fits your 2016 Mini Clubman, I checked with Saris, and the Bones is not a fit for your car. What I can instead verify fits is an option from Yakima, the Yakima Fullback 2-Bike Rack # Y02634.

I have added a photo from Yakima showing the FullBack # Y02634 on a Clubman for you, and this gets installed using "Anchor Mode" which means the hooks go inside the hatch as opposed to using the hooks. This is similar to the Hatch Huggers you mentioned for the Saris rack, and goes for both the top and bottom straps.

Hey John, how did things go with the Yakima FullBack rack on your Mini Clubman? Were the straps easy to secure using the Anchor Mode setup? Your feedback could really help others with the same barn door design.
