Option For Felt Saddle-Style Kayak Carrier For Roof Rack

Question:

I have some 10 years? kayak Thule Mounts - the front set are regular cradle style, the back ones are a flat felt paddle style. I could send photos with a detailed view of it I cant seem to find the same 2 felt flat paddle style paddles and am using 4 cradle style now but would like to change to the same flat felt style for my 2nd kayak carry group.

Hello Greg,

I believe by "paddle style" you were referring to the saddle-style kayak carriers, which are flat like you described. While Thule no longer has felt carriers, there is a manufacturer that does, which is Rhino Rack. So you can still use the style you want, you'd just need the Rhino-Rack Nautic Kayak Carrier # RR571.

Thank you so kindly for your assessment and seemingly accurate alternative (R-Rack # RR571). I am a little unsure about: A. the bolt - clamp part for my square Thule bar B. Price for 2 of these felt mounts It is however helpful to consider.

@Greg Regarding the bolt, I can tell you it will definitely bolt around your Thule square bar without any issue; that won't be a problem. As for price, this is not available in a pair, just the four saddles.

@KyleS Thank you for the detailed response on fit and product offering. Since I have a 2nd kayak mount (Thule) mount set, albeit 4 cradle style mounts and wanted to replace 2 cradle style with 2 felt paddle style,, I rigged a felt-plastic cover for the rear mounts for the near term solution. I would consider this RR 571 solution if I need a full mount group, but might look at the J Style Mounts available too. Best always.
