What Does etrailer Recommend for Protecting Hitches Against Rust
Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 06/27/2024 >
Question:
Received my hitch today, will probably let u-haul install it. I was wondering if e-trailer has a recommendation for coating the hitch frame to control rust. Something besides paint, Fluid Film or CRC coating? Suggestions? Thanks

Thanks for purchasing the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e38KR for your 2024 Hyundai Tucson, Joanne!
The only product we've ever really recommended for helping to protect the paint on hitches is to spray paint any areas that have been scratched to help keep rust from starting to form.
You're more than welcome to add something else to it to add some more protection, but we don't have an official take on what to use for that.

Hey Joanne, how did things go with your new hitch on the Tucson? Did the spray paint touch-up keep the rust under control so far? Your update could make it easier for others looking to protect their hitch finish.
