Replacement Options For A Dometic RV Air Conditioning System

Updated 07/02/2024 | Published 06/23/2024

Question:

I got a phone call yesterday that we all dread when at work. Your wife called and your camper is on fire. Thankfully she was there and the fire department is only a mile from the location. Coming to find out it was about to catch fire. They seem locked up and the condenser was at 197°. They said so now I’m looking at the 15000 Advent. Mine is a Demetic 13,500. Was wanting to get some clear answers. Both of my a/c units run off one thermostat is the advent compatible. Is the distribution box the same. Plugs and wiring. Was a little interested in looking at a unit that has heat as well.

Hey Eric,

Since both of your units run off of one thermostat the Advent, as well as the other options we currently offer would not be a compatible match. You would have to completely replace the Dometic system with something like the Furrion Chill HE RV Air Conditioner System # FR94FJ or switch to two separate systems if you went with an Advent Air # ASA26YR.

The options we offer do have heat strips available but I wouldn't really consider their output to be what you're looking for.

Yeah that’s what I was told by asa when I called them about the control box not having their plug. The The associates/employee told me it would not work. I let him know….I currently have an advent on my rear of my camper that works with my single thermostat that controls the furnace, AC and front AC then he pretty much called me Call me a liar saying it’s not possible, they have never been able to run off one thermostat. It’s a dometic duel control. Will on E trailer side apologized for that guys actions. Which was nice but I think I’m still going to go ahead and return it and the heat strip.

@EricS I believe ASA had issues with some controllers in a dual unit setup not responding correctly and just ruled out that as a capability. A lot of manufacturers really don't want you mixing and matching their parts with other brands. In some cases it might work but in others there can be lag between the unit and controller and then the consumer is left thinking they got a shoddy product.
