Recommended Upgraded Suspension Kit For A 2-9/16" Shackle Strap Measurement

Updated 02/17/2026 | Published 06/20/2024

Question:

I have a utility trailer with a single axle that I believe is 3500 lb. rating. It has double eye leaf springs that are 1-3/4 wide. I would like to buy an upgrade kit with wet bolts. I think the K71-358-00 kit is what I need. The only thing that doesnt match up with what I have is that the original shackle straps have holes at 2-9/16 between centers and the kit has 3-1/8. Will this work for my application or is there a better match?

Hey Phillip,

The Dexter Heavy Duty Suspension Upgrade Kit for Single Axle Trailers # K71-358-00 would work but it's going to add a bit of extra height to your trailer and could potentially cause a bind up. Personally, I'd go with the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers - 2-1/4" Long Shackle Straps # MR46ZR instead to minimize the difference between what you have and what you're changing to so that the suspension can travel properly.

Hey Phillip, how did things turn out with the suspension upgrade on your utility trailer? Did the MORryde kit give you the smoother travel you were looking for? Your feedback could help others comparing these two kits.
