Is There 5th Wheel Hitch For 2022 Ford F-250 w/ Pucks That Will Get Closer to King Pin

Updated 06/26/2024 | Published 06/17/2024

Question:

Looking for answer about fifth wheel hitch. I have a 2022 Ford f250 4 door short bed truck, factory puck system, reese rail adapter, reese 15k pro slider, pulling 2019 Jayco Eagle 27.5 trailer. I cannot put tailgate down without sliding the hitch back. I need a new top, but was wondering if there’s a hitch to solve my problem. Bed depth 21-1/2”, front of kingpin to tailgate 72-3/4”, front of kingpin to trailer 72-3/4” Thank you for any help! Fred

Hi Fred,

It's possible there is a 5th wheel hitch for your 2022 Ford F-250 that can give you a bit more clearance, but you'll need to compare that to where your current hitch sits. What may work for you is the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w Slider for Ford Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3370.

The # BWRVK3370 has arms you can reposition, and when they are in the position furthest from the cab, the kingpin will be 1" in front of the axle. I'm not certain where your kingpin sits now relative to the axle, but hopefully this will give you an idea of if the hitch can be used.

Thank you Kyle for your answere. Marcus answered my question about hitch problem. But I do have another question about the Reese Goosebox hitch, how is it for a short bed truck on regard to bed side rail & top of tailgate clearance? Thank you

@Fred Glad you were helped out, and in regards to a Goose Box like part # RP85FR, it isn't going to give you any type of added clearance on a short bed, so you'd have the same type of clearance issues. If you are going to go with a Goose Box though, you can actually add clearance with the Gen-Y Hitch Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Ford OEM Puck Systems - 5" Offset # GY43XR. Like the title mentions, it'll give you 5" of offset from the gooseneck hole of the puck system in your F-250 which is more than you'd get with a 5th wheel hitch. The only other thing you'd need (if you don't have them already) are Safety Chain Loops # C60691 for the Reese Safety Chains # RP49151.
