Replacement For Horse Trailer With 205/65R15 And 215/65R15 Tires

Updated 05/21/2024 | Published 05/18/2024

Question:

Hi, I am purchasing a 1982 Shoop 2 horse trailer and the current tires are completely dry rotted. The current tires are P205/65R15 92T and 215/65R15 95T. From my understanding, the tires should be ST tires not P. What would be the recommended tire size for replacements? I am struggling to find proper replacements.

Hi Crystal,

I'm glad you asked because you definitely need new tires on your horse trailer. Tires that start with "P" means you have passenger tires, and you're correct you need tires that start with "ST" which are tires made for trailers.

So to replace your 205/65R15 and 215/65R15 tires I recommend ST205/75R15 tires, which will measure 27.1" in diameter and 8.1" wide when inflated. The width will be the same as your current tires but will add about 1/2" in height to the top of the tire. That shouldn't matter much but it is worth noting if you don't currently have at least 2-1/2" of clearance from the top of the tire to the fender. The right tire will depend on the capacity you need:

- Load Range C - 1,820 lb Per Tire Capacity: Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10244

- Load Range D - 2,150 lb Per Tire Capacity: Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10245
