Question:

I have a ‘22 and our trailer weighs toughly 7k. I bought the air lift air springs 1000hd that have a 2100lbs max at 50psi. Right now I’m maxed out on them and still have a slight sag. With that sag I still experience the boat effect. I know if I were to throw on load lifters it would eliminate this however I commute quite a bit without the trailer and am hoping to maintain a nice ride when not towing. How do these hold up in this manner and should I try it or just install the load lifters?

Hey Kristopher, great question. You have a 2022 Ram 1500 correct? If so, I definitely recommend going with the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs # AL57375. I can confidently say that using these will take care of all of the sagging, and will eliminate most, if not all, of the boat effect you are experiencing. This will be a much better option than the Firestone Coil-to-Air-Spring Conversion Kit # F2595 in my opinion.

When you are not towing you can lower the pressure inside the air bags to a minimum of 5 PSI. This will allow you to commute without having the suspension be too rough. It will be much more like the factory ride with the bags at minimum PSI. What I also suggest doing is installing an onboard compressor with an in-cab gauge and controls. The Air Lift Load Controller II Compressor System # AL25592 is a reasonably priced option that will put control of the air bags at your fingertips. This way you can fine-tune your suspension with no hassle.

It is worth noting also that, looking at the current cost of the LoadLifter kit and Compressor system, it is very similar to the cost of the Firestone kit. So, you will be getting a more versatile, effective suspension enhancement system for virtually the same price. A win-win. I have linked a few of our install videos for you below.
