Can Hub From 3,500 lb Axle Also Fit 5,200 lb Axle

Question:
I have an Interstate 8x10foot single axle trailer with a Dexter 3.5k spring axle. The spindle bent when I hit a big pothole in Baja and caused the tire to rub and fail. Would like to increase the axle size for durability, not an increase in load capacity. Can I use the existing leaf springs, hubs and bearings? I do not want to care more load, just want the axle more resistant to the many potholes.

Hey Cliff, to go to an axle that has a larger diameter than the 2-3/8 inch 3,500 lb axle you have on your trailer currently you'd have to go to a 3 inch diameter axle which would be between 5,200 and 7,000 lb. This will definitely require a new hub and bearing setup as the spindle size is different but you could keep the leaf springs you have now.
