Trailer Hitch And Wiring For A 2009 Smart fortwo

Updated 03/28/2024 | Published 03/24/2024

Question:

I have a 2009 SmartCar for Two. I need a hitch to pull my kayak trailer. Will the Smart For two Curt work/fit on my car? Pretty sure it’s the Brabus model although I had no idea there were different models. Read some Forum that said it would not be possible.

Hi Cheri,

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11020 is the only fit we currently have and is incompatible with Brabus models so you'll want to determine your model before purchasing anything. If you find you don't have a Brabus model then you can install the hitch and a 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector w/ 72" Harness # 18252 in order to transfer your light signals through to the kayak trailer.

Many thanks. It’s the Passion. So I identified the Curt trailer hitch receiver 2” trailer ball w/ 1-1/4” shank Malone Ecolight/kayak trailer Does that all sound right?

@CheriW Yes, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11020, a 2" ball mount with a 1-1/4" shank, and some trailer wiring # 18252 would complete the setup for towing a Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer # MAL53FR. You'll want to check out our help article below so you can choose the correct rise/drop ball mount to keep the trailer level while towing.
