Would the Curt Chain Hanger part # C17003 fit 3 Inch Channel Trailer Frame
Published 04/16/2014 >
Question:
My small Casita trailer has the front frame constructed of 3inch channel, with the flat side inside. Will this product, which would be about 1/2inch wider than the frame, work? The trailer is only about 1200 lbs, but I am trying to keep the car-trailer level, plus my hitch Ford Flex is quite low, hence the weight distributing hitch.

Actually the inside width of the frame channels of the Curt Hangers part # C17003 that you referenced is 3-3/16 inches so it would only be a little bit wider than the 3 inch channel of your trailer frame. And even if your trailer was half an inch narrower than the hanger this kit comes with pretty long set screws to take up that distance. So to answer your question, yes this kit will work for you.
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow, this figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well.
